Rena Rama
Rena Rama was a Swedish jazz band〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Rena Rama: Landscapes (JAPO 60020) )〕 formed in 1971, noted for a mix of jazz with unusual time signatures and African and Asian folk themes.
Its original personnel included Lennart Åberg (saxophone, flute), Bobo Stenson (piano), Palle Danielsson (bass), and Bengt Berger (drums). Both Stenson and Åberg previously had worked with Red Mitchell, and Danielsson with Steve Kuhn. Berger had previously studied percussion in India. Stenson had already recorded his first trio LP titled "Underwear" (ECM 1012 ST).
Recordings with the original lineup include the LP ''Rena Rama'' on the Caprice label (Caprice CAP 1049 / Caprice RIKS 49), recorded in Stockholm in 1973.〔LP liner notes, Caprice RIKS 49〕
In 1977, Rena Rama released the LP ''Landscapes'' (JAPO 60020), recorded in Oslo.〔LP liner notes, JAPO 60020〕 Personnel was the same except for a new drummer, an America named Leroy Lowe. ''Landscapes'' had a more conventional robust jazz sound than the Caprice LP, although diverse folk elements were still present.
